Issue #17
Forward and Backward

Do you know what a “palindrome is”?
It’s something that reads the same backward as it does forward. Well, here is a real twist. I’m providing a link to a very special palindrome that reads the exact OPPOSITE backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite. Get it?

And why is this so special? Actually, it’s brilliant. AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) sponsored a contest in 2007 titled "U@50." The purpose was to give young people between the ages of 18 and 30 the chance to submit short videos on the subject of what they expect their lives to be like at age 50. The goal was to promote ideas and dialogue between generations, giving AARP further insight into what views were out there. More than 50 videos were submitted, and the winner was announced on YouTube in 2008.

I came across this video clip through a friend, and it is truly astounding. This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen ~ forward and backward. This is a video that was submitted in the contest by a 20-year old. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

Here’s the link (and (If you can't connect, cut and paste full address into your browser address box). It’s entitled "Lost Generation." Here's the link:
