Plastic Egg Mouse Crafts

by Terri
(Calgary, Canada)

These easy mouse crafts are made with plastic Easter eggs that come apart in the middle so you can put in treats.

They come in lots of different colors, but I like to use pink for a mouse. If you wanted the mouse to be all black, then you could paint the egg with black acrylic paint. (That would also look nice and spooky for Halloween).

If you have any of those old plastic eggs left over that you don't know what to do with, try making mouse crafts with them! And if you put one in an Easter basket, it will cause quite a surprise!

Materials

2 black felt ovals for feet
2 black large felt ovals for ears
Black fuzzy pompom for nose
2 craft googly eyes
White paper, cut for the teeth
Black marker for smiley mouth
Red marker for the cheek color
Tail - use what you have, like a strip of felt, yarn, ribbon, cord, shoelace, etc.
Strong craft glue or a glue gun (I think that works best)
Treats for inside of the mouse egg - maybe even one of those little wrapped cheeses.

First, glue on the oval feet. This will keep it steady as you work on it. Glue on the tail from underneath the wide side of the egg. The narrow side is his face.

Then glue on the face in any order you want. I found it was easier to start at the top with the ears and work my way down. When you glue on the ears, fold them over at the bottom so you have a ridge to put the glue on to. Draw on the mouth and cheeks before you glue on the teeth.

This project is very easy to do! It should be a cinch for elderly people to make. The kids in our family love to get these as gifts. Any time.

You can change the color of the eggs for different holidays. If you want to make one for Valentine's Day, use either a pink or red egg. Then you can put in the type of candies you want. And maybe give it with a Valentine. You can also decorate the outside of the egg body with decals or stickers, for whatever occasion you are making it for.

We have made these for Christmas too. Little Christmas mice. You can make the feet out of different colored felt, and the tail could be a colored cord or ribbon. Curled ribbon is cute too. So have fun with these and come up with all kinds of ideas for them!
