Simple Grilled Salmon Recipes

Grilled salmon recipes - simple and packed with nutrition

And talk about tasty! Try these glazes and grilling ideas for a unique dinner at home or a party.

We’ve discussed before the value of salmon as an excellent source of healthy Omega 3 fatty acids, which are excellent for brain health. This is an important component of elderly nutrition to help keep the brain functioning well, and to help ward off dementia and other elderly issues caused by poor nutrition. We’re all for easy healthy recipes, and that includes for grilling.

We always use Alaskan sockeye salmon, because they are caught in the wild, rather than from salmon farms, as are most Atlantic salmon. Atlantic salmon generally contain higher levels of contaminants such as dioxins and PCBs. The grilling time for the recipes below is just an estimate, since individual grills do vary, and timing will also depend on the thickness of the fillet. Oh – and these grilled salmon recipes are also great cold, if you have leftovers.

Grilled Glazed Salmon Fillet

1 whole salmon fillet (about 1 ˝ lbs.)

5 Tablespoons soy sauce or Tamari sauce
5 Tbsp lemon juice
3 Tbsp dry sherry
1 Tsp honey
1 Tbsp grated lemon zest
2 scallions, minced

Remove bones from the salmon (you may have to use tweezers).
Cook 20 minutes – skin down, directly on medium-high grill.

In a saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the above sauce ingredients (not scallions). Boil the mixture for 5 minutes. Brush over the salmon during the last 5 minutes of grilling. Sprinkle with scallions. Serve with the remaining sauce. This is one of our favorite and really flavorful grilled salmon recipes.

Grilled Salmon Sandwich

Alaskan sockeye salmon fillet with bones removed
Freshly ground pepper
Whole-grain bread bun
Romaine lettuce leaf
Slice of red bell pepper
Slice of red onion
Natural orange marmalade (optional)
Slice of cheese (optional)

Grill the salmon fillet, skin down, for about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on thickness.
Glaze with orange marmalade, if using it.
Sprinkle salmon with a little fresh pepper while grilling.
During last 5 minutes, also grill the red pepper & onion slices (or use raw if preferred).
Butter the buns and place on the grill until browned.
Add slice of cheese to the top of the salmon and let it melt. I have used both the orange marmalade and the cheese together on the sandwich, and really like the combination!
When done, put salmon on bun, with slices of cheese, pepper and onion. Either of these grilled salmon recipes is really good with cherry tomatoes and baby carrots on the side.
