Crispy Mini Apple Tart Recipe

This crispy apple tart recipe is outrageously delicious and perfect for parties or dessert time. And it's got really healthy ingredients, so little guilt!

As we all know, apples are one of the most nutritious fruits ever, and this mini apple tart recipe (that my sister created) is perfect for both nutrition and dessert purposes! (Also see our page about Easy Apple Recipes for more ideas). Apples have great fiber, many vitamins, pectin which fights cholesterol, and flavanoid antioxidants. And you can get them easily all year round. This has become one of my favorite healthy dessert recipes.

So here is the recipe, straight from my sister…

Use one of those "mini" muffin tins ( 24 tiny muffins in the tin).
Be sure to line the cups with the mini cupcake papers (mini sizes are available at all grocery stores and most craft stores)

Ingredients:

First make the standard apple crisp topping:
1/2 cup of butter (melted or softened)
3/4 c of brown sugar – or less, if you want it less sweet
1 1/2 c of oats
1/2 c of flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
2 Tablespoon of lemon juice
Mix this all up until crumbly.

Next, chopped about four or five granny smith apples (which are more tart) into small pieces.
Use filo (phyllo) dough, and cut squares of it to fit into the muffin cups (probably about 2 1/2 inches square.)
Filo dough comes in sheets that are already layered about 6 to 8 layers deep.
Place all of the 6 to 8 layers of filo into each cup.
And gently press it down to form a cup shape.
Fill each cup with apple pieces.
It's not necessary to add sugar if you it like tart.
But if you like a sweeter taste, sprinkle a little sugar or sweetener such as Splenda or a stevia sweetener, over the top of each tart.
Put little blobs of your topping on top of each cup of apples.

Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 F degrees for about 25 to 30 minutes, until topping is slightly browned.

You will have fun mini-bite sized apples crisps!
This apple tart is perfect for all kinds of occasions and holidays, including parties. Also serve them for brunch or an indulgent even breakfast. For parties, add a little ice cream on top, or a dollop of whipped cream. If you want a bit of color for a special holiday (such as Valentine's Day) then add a tad of food coloring to the whipped cream first. You could also top it with a colored candy for an extra festive look.

This apple tart recipe is one of the most easy healthy recipes to make (and it smells delicious while baking). So it will make a great family or group activity too. All ages from kids to elderly will enjoy this one.
